The Santa Cruz County Environmental Health Division lobby is currently open for business by appointment only. You may request an appointment to meet with staff to discuss a matter or with our Administrative Support staff to submit an application and make a payment. To request an appointment either send us an email or call 454-2022. Email is checked regularly during business hours Monday through Friday. We continue to encourage you to use email to conduct business.

For documents that cannot be emailed, there is a secure drop-off box on the first floor of 701 Ocean Street. Look for the drop-off box with a sign labeled ‘Building, Planning, and Environmental Health’. Forms, applications and other information can be found on this website.

Applications can be accepted by emailing the required paperwork to: env.hlth@santacruzcounty.us

Payment of fees can be completed online after you receive an invoice in your email.

 Effective, Tuesday, May 18, 2021, Santa Cruz County's status has moved to:

  MINIMAL  

According to the Governor's Blueprint for a Safer Economy, the following can occur with modifications according to state industry guidance:

  • Restaurants can open indoors at a 50% capacity and increase to 75% if all guests show proof of negative test or full vaccination for COVID-19.

  • Grocery Stores can open with modifications to maintain social distancing.

  • Wineries and Tasting Rooms can open indoors at 50% capacity or 200 people (whichever is fewer). Capacity may increase to 75% if all guests show proof of negative test or full vaccination for COVID-19.

  • Brewpubs, Breweries, Distilleries and Pubs can open indoor at 50% capacity or 200 people (whichever if fewer). Capacity may increase to 75% if all guests show proof of negative test or full vaccination for COVID-19.   

  • Bars can open indoors at 25% capacity or 100 people (whichever is fewer). Capacity may increase to 37.5% if all guests show proof of negative test or full vaccination for COVID-19.

  • Family Entertainment Centers and Cardrooms can open indoors at 50% capacity. Capacity can increase to 75% if all guests show proof of negative test or full vaccination for COVID-19.

  • Movie Theaters can open indoors at a 50% capacity. Capacity can increase to 75% if all guests show proof of negative test or full vaccination for COVID-19.

  • Gyms and Fitness Centers can open indoors at 50% capacity. Capacity may increase to 75% if all guests show proof of negative test or full vaccination for COVID-19.  

  • Outdoor Commercial Pools and Spas can open with modifications.

  • Indoor Commercial Pools are open with modifications.

  • Indoor Spas/ Hot Tubs and Saunas are open with modifications.

  • Body Art, Piercing Facilities, Estheticians, Skin and Hair Services are open indoors with modifications.

  • Daycamps, Campgrounds and Outdoor Recreation can open with modifications.

  • Indoor Playgrounds (Bounce Centers/Ball Pits/Laser Tag) are open indoors at 50% capacity. Capacity can increase to 75% if all guests show proof of negative test or full vaccination for COVID-19.

  • Amusement Parks effective April 1, 2021 can open with modifications at 35% capacity,  indoors at max 25% capacity and for in-state visitors only.

  • Festivals and Concerts cannot be held or operate.

  • Retail Stores and Shopping Centers can open indoors with modifications to maintain social distancing.

  • Swap Meets can open with modifications with closed common areas and food court capacity reduced to comply with restaurant standards.

  • Hotels and Lodging can open with modifications

Permits will not be issued until both payment and any required signed documents are submitted.
